There is major issues in how the CC is running things. some of which i will address here.
One biggie is that some how affinity groups is not mentioned as being able to be a part of the CC. Tembi said it was an oversight and i hope it was and not deliberate as the only time affinity group are mentioned is to define what an affinity group is. every single mention of the CC and the process only mentions caucuses and working groups. as written all affinity groups have no place in CC, which by the way was not as agreed upon. this must be fixed.
also the admittance process is flawed. I quote ” ALL working groups and caucuses ( should say affinity groups)WILL be admitted to the CC THAT agree to abide by the general agreements and non violent direct action principles adopted by occupy asheville.
I CANT WRITE WELL. its all in my head but its hard to get on paper.
I have a bona fide disability and need assistance in formulating this.
the process is flawed, major errors is the document that states the process. and the implementation of its power structure. could i have some assistance on this please?

Seems like it should be easy enough to either add “affinity groups” to the language or change it to just say “groups” instead of being specific about the type of group. I went to a CC meeting when we discussed that the type of group is arbitrary; we just wanted to admit active groups so OA can coordinate and streamline efforts and actions.

Email me TODAY at c.media.oa@gmail.com and I’ll write the proposal for your affinity group to join CC starting with phase 1 this Monday, if you want to get going on this ASAP.

Gotta love process/procedures, but it’s essential when there are no authoritarian or heirarchical structures. It’s new, still learning. Hope I can help.

however i need to recognize that this phasing of submissions/proposals is definitely a hierarchical structure.

we may call it something else but if there is a series of obstacles to getting accepted anywhere than hierarchy comes to mind & is in fact in play. We do need process, I am not disagreeing with that, i would hope it would be less cumbersome and time consuming.

I too wish OA’s systems and structures could be less cumbersome and time consuming. Having gone through all the ups and downs of OA since October 1, I have a new respect for what the federal government does, regardless of my gripes about it. It’s hard enough organizing 50-200 people… I can’t imagine the craziness involved to figure everything out for 313+ million people!!!

The CC was created as a way to coordinate efforts. So far, it’s a good start to making sure that decision-making and actions of Occupy Asheville involve everyone. The CC also allows for a lot of discussion to ensure everyone feels good about decisions and actions. This takes time.

CC is still new, so there’s tons of opportunity for adjustments to the CC… consider bringing your concerns to GA to discuss them and see if we can come up with solutions.

believe it would be helpful to have announcements at the beginning of the agenda:
folks are already leaving in their minds–perhaps they have gone;
intense stuff but if we want to be at events and make this movement grow we need to know about upcoming actions etc, & not have to look for that pen and notebook again; also an announcement may resolve an issue or bring up one that needs doing.
Also —as folks can’t speak who are not delegates after a certain point in agenda, they may have gone, hence eliminating their op to know what is useful intel.

The CC is CLEARLY a hierarchical leadership body, and I don’t necessarily oppose that, but I very much oppose any failure to admit it. There are worse things than a hierarchical organization, but there is NOTHING worse than a hierarchical organization in denial about what it is!
