Public Group active 11 months, 2 weeks ago ago“We are the 99%.” This information group is a point of contact for participants in Occupy Asheville who are interested in organizing actions and campaigns in solidarity with workers and labor unions. We believe it is valuable for Occupy Asheville to develop good organizational relationships with unions, but we also seek to build relationships of solidarity between participants in Occupy Asheville and individual rank and file workers. Please join this working group to share ideas and information about work in this area and to get involved in on going worker/labor solidarity campaigns.

Labor Solidarity Information Group 11 months, 2 weeks agoMeeting held on 7/6 of coalition of workers’ groups, planning a seminar on Wage Theft. Participating were IWW, Asheville Socialists, Workers Center, Nuestro Center, Just Economics, Jobs with Justice. My hope is this coming together is the the kernel of an Asheville Workers’ Front.

Labor Solidarity Information Group 11 months, 4 weeks agoSome members of the National Association of Letter Carriers began a hunger strike today protesting the way Congress and USPS management is ”starving” the post office.

Thanks for posting this about the proposed Act. I agree with you about “jingoism” and the bill seems more aimed at embrassing corporations than anything substantive. But it is one of the few bills proposed where two major unions show mutual solidarity, where both political parties seem to show unity and I can get behind this one on that…[Read more]

We know that USPS management plans to close the Asheville Mail Processing Facility on Brevard Rd on May 15th. This would effect 200 jobs and mean that mail being sent within western NC would have to travel to Greenville SC and back. While the media has…[Read more]
On Monday 8 USPS workers began a hunger strike to protest the way Congress is starving the postal service. On Monday USPS management plans to end one day services, such a move will facilitate the closing of the Asheville Processing Facility and similar job sites around the country.
